The San Francisco 49ers have just announced an influx of new staff additions to join Kyle Shanahan. Among those hired, is former Philadelphia Eagle and two-time Pro Bowler, DeMeco Ryans.

Ryans has been hired as the teams new Defensive Quality Control coach, but the move should come as no surprise.

The former Texan was traded to the Eagles back in 2012 and was an impact player almost immediately. Leading the team in tackles during his first season in the City of Brotherly Love, Ryans went on to earn the nickname “Mufasa”, setting career highs in 2013 and became a staple of the team’s Defense. Ryans tore his Achilles during the 2014 season and just one year after the arrival of Jordan Hicks, Mufasa handed the keys to the Animal Kingdom over to his eventual heir. Ryans was released just under a year ago.

Ryans ended his Eagles career with 334 tackles, 5 interceptions and 4 sacks..but was known more for his veteran leadership. A trait that has now seen him plunge into the world of Coaching. As aforementioned, Chip Kelly envisioned that the linebacker would one day coach in the NFL..and it looks as if the former Eagles Head Coach may have been onto something.
