Trying to keep track of all the moves the Eagles and General Manager Howie Roseman has made over the last few days with free agency starting has been a good, head-spinning experience. One of the head scratching scenarios regarding the EDGE rusher position has also become somewhat clearer.

The Eagles and Josh Sweat have agreed to terms to a restructured deal according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

The deal will pay the 26-year-old $10 million guaranteed with incentives that can bump it up to $13 million.

Many fans were wondering what kind of combination Roseman might conjure up between keeping Sweat and Haason Reddick, both who were rumored to be on the trading block just a week ago.

With the addition of Bryce Huff earlier in the week, the Eagles now have two solid EDGE rushers with the possibility of retaining Reddick, who is still under contract with the team for one more season. Reddick never expressed any interest in leaving South Philly, but he is in search of being paid as one of the top pass rushers in the league. The Eagles said he could seek a trade, but so far, nothing has formulated.

As for Sweat, this is a similar situation that Philadelphia had with cornerback Darius Slay last season. Sweat will return for his seventh season with the Eagles after being drafted by the team in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Last season, he recorded 6.5 sacks in 17 games, a dip of production from his 2022 season where he posted a career-best 11 sacks in 16 games.

It was expected Sweat would potentially see a pay increase if he opted to be traded elsewhere, but he has chosen to stay with the Eagles as they continue to aggressively improve the team for the 2024 season.
