Eagles Rumors: 5 trade targets that could give the defense an early boost

The Eagles’ defense has been bitten by the injury bug quite often over the last two weeks. Now the team’s top slot cornerback, Avonte Maddox, will be out for the season with a torn pec. While the team will miss him dearly they have to act on it and find a way to help fill in the void. Whether it’s through additions at other positions or a new slot corner, here are my top 4 trade options:

Justin Simmons

It’s no secret that the Eagles need safety help. We have yet to truly see much of Sydney Brown and while Justin Evans has played well, that can only hold up for so long. The Broncos are the perfect trade partner in this instance. They seem to be at a crossroads right now with determining the direction of their current roster.

Trading Justin Simmons would be a wise move for them for the right draft capital. As for the Eagles, this move instantly solidifies your defense especially when Reed Blankenship returns. Simmons can do everything that you need a top safety to do and it’ll ensure a more confident path to the Super Bowl.

Devin White

Nakobe Dean is untouchable, we all know this. While Zach Cunningham is great, you can still trade for a player like Devin White and have Cunningham take over Edmunds’s role in the box. Solidifying the second level of this defense is a must and if Philly isn’t careful then it could come back and bite them.

White is an all-pro caliber player who may be stuck on a team that peaks early on but falls short of the playoffs. The Bucs could be in sell mode by the time the trade deadline arrives but this would be a wise move for the Eagles.

Kenny Moore II

I mean, why not?! You need a slot corner for the rest of this season and possibly for the future at this rate. While the Eagles did sign Isaiah Rodgers, he isn’t guaranteed a role on this team especially if they can land a player like Moore. He’s a star that will give the Eagles stability going forward. Moore can be a trusted defender in this defense. This kind of move would also help with the growth of Jobe and Goodrich as well.

Kevin Byard

I’ve been banging the table for this trade to happen and now is as good a time as ever. Over his last two seasons, Byard has 9 interceptions and 196 tackles. He also has started every game since 2017 and has never missed a game at all. The Titans’ Ironman would be the perfect compliment for the Eagles in their secondary.

Budda Baker

Budda Baker is an absolute fan favorite for the Eagles right now. While it all started with his raving review of Eagles HC Nick Sirianni, Baker has become a top candidate for a position of need for the Eagles. Reed Blankenship is currently nursing a ribs injury while Evan and Edmunds have done what they can to hold down the fort. Bringing Baker would be great for the Eagles but could be complicated with him hitting IR this week. If a move is to happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened closer to the trade deadline.
