Fresh off of an exhilarating end to the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour picks up steam and heads to the Colonial Country Club for the Charles Schwab Challenge. It’s a course that has a 70-year history on the PGA Tour, meaning that there is plenty of data for us to pull from in order to find the best betting selections for you.

Charles Schwab Challenge: Get to know the Course

Colonial Country Club has hosted a PGA Tour event every year since 1946, becoming renowned for its challenging layout. There are notable water hazards on 1/3rd of the holes with narrow fairways to navigate, it’s important to be accurate off the tee. Golfers who are able to shot-shape with ease should have success around here.

Charles Schwab Challenge: The favorites

Scottie Scheffler+400
Viktor Hovland+1400
Tony Finau+1400
Jordan Spieth+1600
Colin Morikawa+1600
Sungjae Im+2000
Max Homa+2200
Justin Rose+2500

Scottie Scheffler comes into the Charles Schwab Challenge as the overwhelming favorite. It’s rare to see a favorite priced this much lower than the chasing pack, but it does come with good reason. Scheffler came 2nd at the PGA Championship after a final-round grind which made him to the #1 ranked Golfer in the world once again.

He ranks first in just about every metric imaginable on the official PGA website, outside of ‘Around the Green’ where he sits 14th. There could be an argument for fading Scottie here, who could decompress after Sunday’s heroics, but we’ve seen this man defy the odds time and time again.

In terms of ball strikers, Hovland, Morikawa, and Homa are 3 notable names to note in the upper echelon of players. Hovland was in contention for his first Major win this past weekend, while Homa finished a lowly 55th. However, he did come 8th at the Wells Fargo Championship and appears to have broken out of his early-season struggles. On his day, Homa can hang with the best of them and there’s no reason he can’t do so again.

Tony Finau is another name worth circling in red. While he too struggled at the PGA Championship, he’s had four consecutive top-25 finishes around this course and clearly feels comfortable here. We’re yet to see the seemingly imminent breakout and this is a great spot for it.

Charles Schwab Challenge: The sleepers

One man who’s going to command a lot of attention is Michael Block. The fairytale story just keeps getting better, with Block’s Sunday heroics earning him entry into the Charles Schwab Challenge as well as a guaranteed spot in next year’s PGA Championship. He comes in at +60000 while a top-10 finish is +3500. Getting 35/1 odds on a top-10 finish is pretty wild and it’s not expected that Block can keep this run of form going, but who’s to say? Nobody thought he’d make the cut to begin with, let alone finish inside the top-20…

Tommy Fleetwood at +2800 isn’t much of a Charles Schwab Challenge sleeper, because he is a very complete golfer, but he often gets overlooked and is quietly trending in the right direction. He graded out as my sixth-best golfer in terms of fit last year and his impressive form coming into this week leave him in good stead once more.
