After a disappointing series against the Rangers, the Philadelphia Phillies opened things up on the road in San Diego with a big-time win. Can they follow it up on Friday?

The streak is broken

Joe Musgrove was undefeated this season going into last night’s match, that was until Stott’s totts took to the plate. Bryson hit a big-time double in the sixth that was followed up by a Schwarber bomb to bring the pairing home. It felt as if once the Phillies saw an opening, they threw everything at it.

Realizing the caliber of pitcher opposite them, Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos pushed in singles before J.T Realmuto broke his own streak (his first homer since late May) by blasting a ball to right field and bringing home all three runs.

The bullpen was solid (shoutout Seranthony) and the Phils were able to hang in and just chip away at one of the league’s best pitchers.

They have another tough challenge this evening, but they’re sending their prized pitcher to the mound as a counter.

Phillies vs Padres: Pitching matchup

Aaron Nola (4-4, 3.11 ERA) vs MacKenzie Gore (4-3, 3.64 ERA)

Nola has had a brilliant start to the 2022 campaign and is coming off of a dominant shutout start against the Nats. Gore, meanwhile, has looked good as a rookie, but may be going through the expected growing pains after bring ripped to shreds by the Rockies. If he pitches somewhere between his sizzling start and dismal downfall, then Nola should have the edge.

Betting preview

The Phils are naturally favorites going into tonight and it’s hard to find any real reason to bet against them. They broke their three-game winless streak in explosive fashion and have a much easier pitching matchup tonight.
