Fatts Russell Steals show as Rhode Island beat Saint Joseph’s in OT

Philadelphia: The final push to get a good seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament keep going on Tuesday night as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on Rhode Island Rams from Hagan Arena on the Campus of Saint Joseph’s University. Saint Joseph’s enters the game at (13-16, 6-10 in A-10) and off a win over LaSalle on March 2. The Rams of Rhode Island come to Philly with 14-14, 7-9 in A-10) and off a OT loss to Dayton on March 1.

Hawks would win the tip to start the game and they would score right away on the basket from Lorenzo Edwards for a 2-0 lead, Rhode Island would score the games next 5 points for the 5-2 lead. The Rams would make 3 of 4 from 3 pt range and then, the Hawks Jared Bynum would keep the game close as the Rams took an 11-9 lead at the 1st media timeout. The Hawks and Rams would gon on separate runs. Hawks would take a 33-27 lead with 5:03 left. The Rams would go on another run to cut the Hawks lead. The refs would let both teams play and make good scoring chances.

Rams fatts Russell would get nailed with a technical foul, The Hawks would take a 38-35 lead at halftime.

The Hawks would start the 2nd half playing good defense and lead to the basket by Charlie Brown. The Hawks would grow a 10 point lead at 48-38 with 15:01 left. Rhode Island tried to keep the game close and would go on a 10-0 as they got the lead down to 1 at 51-50 with 10:29 left. After the Rams got the lead down to 1, Hawks would put up a 6-0 run for 57-50 lead. Hawks Chris Clover fouled out after getting nailed with a technical foul with 5:51 left and the Hawks lead 62-56. Rams would not go away that easy as they would get the Hawks lead down to 2 at 66-64 with 3:36 left. Both the Rams & hawks would play good defense down the stretch. Hawk Charlie Brown would foul out as the Hawks up 75-72 with 30 seconds left. Rams would tie the game at 77 on 3 Pointer by Fatts Russell with 5 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Fatts Russell Shot to force OT:

In the overtime, Fatts Russell would have it going with some big shots by scoring the last 19 points, Rams would make big shots down the stretch and the Hawks would try to keep it going but would run out of time as the Rams would take down the Hawks 86-85 in OT.

With the win, Rhode Island goes to (15-14, 8-7 in A10) and will finish the regular season at home vs UMass on March 9 while Saint Joseph’s falls to (13-17, 6-11 in A10) & will try to end the regular season on a winning note as they take on VCU on March 8.
