NFL Insider Ian Rapoport just announced on twitter that veteran Wide receiver Anquan Boldin is going to sign with the Detroit Lions. What’s really surprising however, is the sentence that followed.

According to Rapoport, the Eagles showed “real interest” in the 35 year old who received for 739 yards and 4 touchdowns with the 49ers in 2015.

Boldin is one of the most experienced receivers in the NFL and has 13,195 yards and 74 touchdowns to his name in what’s been a sensational career. After being drafted by the Cardinals in 2003, Boldin went on to become a Super Bowl Champion with the Ravens and go to 3 Pro Bowls among countless other awards. Most recently, Boldin was named the ‘Walter Payton NFL Man Of the Year’ in 2015.

The Eagles need some help on the outside after failing to have a wideout hit 1,000 yards receiving in 2015. The additions of Reuben Randle, Chris Givens and T.J Graham seemed to please many..but fans were still hoping to see the birds make a push to add a veteran presence to a very young receiving corps.

It also raises the question of whether the Eagles would then be interested in pursuing recently reinstated Josh Gordon or not. If the birds did show a lot of interest in Boldin, it could be a sign that they’re still looking to solidify a position that has plenty of doubts looming over it.

I posted an article way back in January justifying the move and after reading that the Eagles were in fact still looking to add a veteran receiver to their roster which, the move wouldn’t exactly the craziest thing to take place this offseason.
