According to NFL Insider Adam Caplan, Eagles running back Ryan Mathews has recently had surgery on his groin following a season of injury troubles.

Mathews missed three games in total out of the 16 whilst taking less than five snaps in five. The news comes as a surprise due to how spontaneous it seems and considering that he remained active for so long but it’s not shocking…
Mathews was constantly on the teams injury report as a persistent groin injury plagued his season which saw him listed as either questionable or probable in most weeks.
Perhaps that’s why Chip Kelly was so reluctant to give him snaps after all..maybe it wasn’t his arrogance of thinking Murray was the more efficient runner…who knows.
Mathews ended the season with 6 touchdowns and 539 yards on just 106 attempts.
