They always say that it’s good to support the future of your club. To cheer on the academy teams and if you’re a Football Manager player, scout out the wonderkids and tell your friends about them for years to come until they blossom into the player you always knew he would be.
Well, whatever your reasons may be for supporting tomorrows stars, now there is another one. The The Philadelphia Union Under-16’s triumphed tonight in a huge win over the New England Revolution U-16’s in the Quarterfinals of the USSDA.
The Union came out of their group as the No. 2 overall seed having won every played. They faced a perhaps over performing New England side in what can only be described as a manic game, ending in a 5-3 Union victory.
The Union went into the half 1-2 down to the Revs, but Raheem Taylor-Parkes shone as he scored three out of the four goals for the Union and played a pivotal role in earning the win. McCaster came in at half time and certainly earned some more gametime after contributing greatly to his team.
It was a constant barrage of attacking from the Union in the second half, their character was tested but they came out swinging and earned a hard fought win. Whilst the Revs were much stronger in the air, it was the Union who were able to dominate the passing game and create some blistering chances.
We will be looking into bringing exclusive match reports, interviews and highlights in the coming future for the Union Academy, but this is all we have right now alongisde a huge congratulations! The guys are heading to California for the Semi Finals! Send them your best wishes on twitter @PhilaUnion_Acad
