According to the latest from ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sixers star Paul George is consulting with doctors looking into treatment options for his groin and knee injuries, including possible procedural options.

George’s season with Philadelphia began with such high expectations that took blow after blow before freefalling into the state the Sixers find themselves in now.

George initially suffered a bone bruise in his left knee on Oct. 14 in a preseason matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. He would go on to miss the Sixers’ final two preseason games and the first five games of the regular season. George would play eight games with the Sixers before suffering another bone bruise in the same knee on Nov. 20 against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Returning three games later, George would play in 23 of the Sixers’ next 27 games, looking wildly inconsistent night to night. On Jan. 25, George suffered yet another injury against the Chicago Bulls, tearing a tendon in his left pinky while contesting for a rebound against Bulls center Nikola Vucevic.

George would miss another five games before returning with a splint on his hand. He would play in the Sixers’ next 11 games, looking even more uncomfortable than he had earlier in the season, but there was still more to befall Paul George, as he has now missed four of the Sixers’ past five games due to a sore groin.

With the various injuries impacting George in a season that effectively no longer matters, as the Sixers sit five games removed from the NBA’s play-in tournament, it seems possible that George’s season may already be over after just 41 games played.

As disappointing as the outcome is, both George and the Sixers are far better off investing in his health and revisiting his play come next season. While George, 35, is not getting any younger, pushing his body through just serves no purpose, especially not this season.

A decision on George’s knee is expected sometime next week, and an update will be provided when it is available.
