May the Fourth Be With Your Bets! Phillies vs. Giants Betting Preview and Predictions for Saturday May 4th

The Philadelphia Phillies have been a powerful force to be reckoned with on the diamond as of late. Following Friday’s 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies claimed, for the first time since April 11, 2022, first place in the National League East. Owning a 22-11 record, the Phillies also stand atop all Major League Baseball in the win column.

Whether you prefer the Phillies as the scruffy-looking nerf herder underdogs of year’s past or the current look of an Imperial juggernaut, light side or dark side, there are a plenty of bounties to be had on the betting front, if you let the force guide you.

The Pitching Matchup: Phillies vs. Giants

Ranger Suarez (5-0, 1.32 ERA) vs Keaton Winn (3-3, 3.18 ERA)

The National League Pitcher of the Month will look to continue his April success in his first start of May at home on Saturday evening. Ranger Suarez, who will be getting his own Mandalorian bobble head theme night in late August (missed opportunity by the Phillies here not doing that specific promotion on May the Fourth, but I digress).

In his most recent start, Suarez allowed his first run in 32 innings but continued his impeccable performance nonetheless. Having pitched 8.0 innings to earn the victory in San Diego, Suarez’s sole run was allowed on three hits while he struck out eight batters with zero walks recorded. In April, Suarez picked up the victory in all five of his starts, pitching a 0.75 ERA over 36.0 innings of work.

Facing off against the Mandalorian Ranger is Keaton Winn, a young starting pitcher with only 76.1 innings pitched in his career thus far for the Giants. So far in 2024, Winn has started in six games, pitching a strong 3.18 ERA over 34.0 innings. Winn has pitched 6.0 innings in each of his last three starts for the Giants, allowing one earned run across each start while averaging five strikeouts.

Phillies vs. Giants: Betting Preview

Expect Suarez to continue to deal against the Giants on Saturday evening. The real question on whether to go for the over or under is whether the Phillies’ offense, with a sidelined Trea Turner, will break the young Winn.

The Phillies feel in line to continue their winning habits, and given the pitching matchup I would feel safe adding in the parlay at the under as well.

Prop Bets

Bryce Harper watched a lot of pitches go by him last night, recording three walks while going 0-for-1 in his only at-bat on the night. Tonight feels like a good night to bet on a Bryce Harper home run, and the +390 odds feel ripe for picking if you believe the force is with him.
