WrestleMania 40 is now just days away and excitement is at an all-time high after another rumbustious episode of Monday Night Raw. Here’s everything you need to know about the biggest spectacle in Wrestling.
WrestleMania 40: How to watch
When: April 6th & April 7th, 7pm EST start on both nights
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
How: Peacock
What to expect at WrestleMania 40
The two-night bonanza will feature the WWE’s biggest stars and some must-see matches including The Rock’s first real match in over a decade, and culminating in Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes II. The main event will see Reigns put the World Title on the line against ‘The American Nightmare’ after one of the most incredible runs of all time.
Here is a full breakdown of the card for both nights:
WrestleMania 40 card: Saturday, April 6th
Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee vs Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio
Dragon Lee is picking up momentum in WWE following an impressive NXT run and he now teams with one of the best to ever do it in Rey Mysterio. The two will lock horns with Santos Escobar and Rey’s son Dominik, who has a storied rivalry with his father.
Bianca Belair, Naomi & Jade Cargill vs Dakota Kai, Kairi Sane & Asuka (Damage CTRL)
Damage CTRL might be one of the best factions in the WWE today. All 3 women are main event-caliber performers and will take on proven veterans in Bianca & Naomi, while Jade Cargill will make her WrestleMania debut in a match that could well showcase her ability and prime a strong run into the Summer.
Sami Zayn vs Gunther (c) Intercontinental Championship
This is absolutely a match that could steal the show on night one. Zayn was in a pivotal figure at WrestleMania last year and now faces one of the most dominant forces in the business. A win over Gunther would likely yield of the biggest babyface pops in recent memory and there’s no denying that Sami deserves his flowers. But against a man as ruthless as Gunther, it’s going to take his very best.
El Generico would be proud…
Six-way ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships
Judgement Day vs Awesome Truth vs New Catch Republic vs New Day, DIY vs A-Town Down under
This could be another barn burner of a match. I’m a big fan of ‘The New Catch Republic’ (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate) and we’re yet to see them in a spot this big. They’re surrounded by former Tag Team Champions and the dynamics of teams like ‘New Day’ and ‘Awesome Truth’ could be really fun to watch. It will be interesting to see if a new team is crowned the champions.
Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso
Former Tag Team champions and twin brothers, the Uso’s will do battle in what should be the final chapter of a story that has spanned multiple years under The Bloodline. The two have put on some of the best tag matches in recent memory and watching them fight at WrestleMania will be a surreal moment for competitors and fans alike.
Rhea Ripley (c) vs Becky Lynch: Women’s World Championship
After a really strong build that saw the two almost get into it during Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour this week, the two will look to put on another classic in the Women’s division. We haven’t really seen the best from Ripley as champion and this could be a great spot for her to get a huge defense over one of the all-time greats in the division.
The Rock & Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins
The stipulation for this match is huge. A Reigns & Rock win will see a ‘Bloodline rules’ setting for night 2’s main event, whereas if Cody and Seth can pull off a win, the Bloodline will be banned from ringside. The build to this match has been absolutely brilliant, with The Rock really doing some of his best work to elevate everyone involved. It’s about as must-watch as could possibly be.
Sunday Night 2 WrestleMania 40 Card
Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits vs The Final Testament
A Philadelphia Street Fight to kick off night 2? Count me in! This should be a great way to amp up the crowd for the night ahead and is bound to feature a surprise or two along the way.
LA Knight vs AJ Styles
Seeing both of these men at Mania is going to be a great experience. Styles is one of the best wrestlers of this generation and LA Knight’s ascension into the Main Event picture could be expedited with a win here.
Logan Paul (c) vs Randy Orton vs Kevin Owens: United States Championship
This could genuinely go in any direction. The fact that Prime is now a ring sponsor for WWE probably puts Logan Paul as a favorite to retain, but both KO and Randy Orton are previous champions who would be perfect fits to elevate younger talent in title defenses down the line, which is something Paul has struggled to do due to his schedule. It should be a banger though.
Iyo Sky (c) vs Bayley: Women’s World Championship
Bayley will be looking to recapture the Women’s World Championship against one of the hottest stars in WWE. The rivalry between the two has been great to watch unfold and it all ends in a match that should be brilliant to watch. Sky has risen to every occasion and a defense against a woman as decorated as Bayley would really push her to the next level.
Seth Rollins (c) vs Drew McIntyre: World Heavyweight Championship
I might actually be more excited for this match than the main event. The build has been nothing short of sensational, with the two intertwined with CM Punk, who will be commentating on what might well be the match of the weekend. What twists and turns will unfold? Will we finally see Seth dethroned after an incredibly strong run, and will there be any lingering effects from the chaos of night one?
Roman Reigns (c) vs Cody Rhodes: Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
It all comes down to this. A story two years in the making involving every twist and turn imaginable will be closed in Philadelphia. Cody and Roman fought for this title last year, with Reigns extending his run in controversial fashion.
Will Cody Rhodes finally get to finish his story, and will it be under Bloodline rules? All will be revealed this weekend!
