Ravens vs Chiefs: AFC Championship Betting preview

The Kansas City Chiefs came into the playoffs as underdogs. Sure, they’re only one year removed from a Super Bowl win, but the roster had some big holes, and losses to teams like the Raiders, Packers, and Bills, instilled doubt amongst analysts. However, the playoffs have been a different story, with Patrick Mahomes willing his team to success and driving them to their sixth straight AFC Championship appearance.

As for the Ravens, this feels like it might finally be their year. Lamar Jackson is performing at an MVP level once again, and the defense looks nastier than ever. Prior to their week 18 loss (with rested starters), they were riding a 6-game win streak and picked right up where they loft against the Texans, sending them careering back down to earth.

On paper, the Ravens have the best defense in the AFC and it’s hard to match their levels of offensive production. Sprinkle in a homefield advantage and it is hard to see the Chiefs winning outright here, but stranger things have happened, and Kanas City knows no surrender.

Why the Ravens can win

The Baltimore Ravens come into this game with the best rushing offense in the NFL, whereas the Chiefs rank 16th in stopping it. Stopping the best rushing offense is one thing, but doing so with the likely MVP winner in Lamar Jackson leading the charge is a different beast entirely.

Why the Chiefs can win

Kansas City has a habit of sneaking through the backdoor just when all hope seems lost. A huge win against the Bills would’ve given the team a huge wave of confidence, and they’re led by arguably the best quarterback in the NFL.

While the offense might lack weapons, Travis Kelce still exists. The Niners TE’s put up 120+ yards on Baltimore when they locked horns earlier this year, and you can bet that Andy Reid will be scouring tape looking to try and find a similar path to the endzone.

Ravens vs Chiefs: AFC Championship Betting pick

As much as I like the Chiefs to spring a surprise and reach the Super Bowl again, the better team has the edge in just about every area here, especially when it comes to stopping the run. Lamar Jackson will be the obvious X-Factor and I just can’t see the Chiefs scoring enough against this Ravens defense to keep pace.
