Texans vs Browns: Wild Card weekend sees some explosive matchups to heat up the cold weather, with the Texans and Browns kicking things off. Can Joe Flacco rally the Browns past rookie QB C.J Stroud and a well-oiled Texans team?

David Njoku to score an anytime TD +170

FILE – Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco scrambles against the New York Jets during the first half of an NFL football game Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, in Cleveland. As Cleveland’s quarterback and his new-ish teammates prepare for Saturday’s wild-card game in Houston, Flacco’s experience — and success — on the road in the postseason is giving the Browns (11-6) an extra boost of confidence. David Njoku is finally enjoying the kind of breakout that Browns fans have been clamoring to see since his arrival. He leads the team in touchdown receptions this season and ended the year on a three-game stretch that saw him put up 282 yards and a pair of scores.

The Texans have only allowed 5 receiving touchdowns against opposing TE’s this year, but one of those was indeed against Njoku when these teams clashed just a few weeks ago. They’ve also allowed over 1,000 yards to opposing TE’s, which could give you a pivot on Njoku’s yards if you prefer. .

I like Njoku to become a primary target of Joe Flacco in this matchup, especially with the Texans’ Safeties having to worry about Amari Cooper.

C.J Stroud over 242.5 passing yards -110

Joe Flacco’s passing total being 268 is wild when Stroud’s is only 242. It’s a number he’s eclipsed 9 times this season, with the rookie soaring past the 300, and even 400 mark on occasions this year.

We didn’t get to see C.J Stroud take the field against Cleveland when they clashed earlier this season, and Cleveland might have the league’s top-ranked pass defense, but the postseason can often throw up some interesting surprises.

The Browns have hardly experienced consistently elite QB play this year from opposing teams. Sure, there have been some big games, but there have also been some hefty losses in the process.

I like Stroud to take a commanding presence in his first postseason experience, comfortably getting over this total and likely outpacing Flacco.

Jerome Ford under 43.5 rushing yards

Cleveland ranks 2nd in opposing yards per play allowed, with the Texans lagging in 15th. On run defense, Houston ranks 6th, and while these conditions are bound to call for a heavy dosage of rushing from the Browns, I’m not sure if I’d go all-in on Ford to get over the line.

Jerome has only gone over this total twice in his last 5 games, and that’s just not a trend I’d feel comfortable backing against a stout run defense like Houston’s. Take the under.

Amari Cooper over 74.5 receiving yards

As much as Joe Flacco’s passing total is inflated, Amari Cooper’s is not. He’s flown over this total in each of his last 3 games, with 264 being put up against the Texans when they clashed on Christmas Eve.

Cooper is clearly a favorite target of Flacco, and the two have only gotten more time to get acclimated since that game. He’s going to be sought out early and often by his QB, and getting over 75 yards feels very attainable.
