The Philadelphia Eagles have released their first injury report ahead of this weekend’s regular-season finale against the New York Giants. After a month of disappointing play, Nick Sirianni and the Eagles have a chance to get things back on track this weekend by beating their divisional rivals and doing their part as far as winning the NFC East goes. But will they be at full strength?
Eagles injury report:
Wednesday’s practice was a walkthrough, so we’re going to have to wait until tomorrow for a firmer read on the injury situation. However, there are some interesting notes.
Jordan Davis was one of three Eagles to miss today’s walkthrough. The defensive tackle has been subject to some pretty hefty criticism over the last couple of weeks and was listed on the injury report with an ankle setback. With just 42 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the year, it’s fair to wonder just how valid the criticism is, but the main thing right now is whether or not he’s healthy for this game and beyond.
DeVonta Smith was spotted with a walking boot and crutches following the loss to Arizona and despite missing today’s practice, was seen without those items, which is at least an encouraging sign. The Eagles will absolutely need their star wideout for the playoffs, so there would be no harm in resting him this week if it meant he was 100% for the opening playoff round.
Haason Reddick missed today’s practice with an illness, but will likely play this weekend.
Darius Slay was a limited participant after missing several consecutive games due to a minor surgery. Again, the Eagles will be in no hurry to get him back onto the field, with only the Giants’ offense remaining on deck and a playoff spot secured.
Avonte Maddox and Zach Cunningham were the other two players who were limited today. Maddox spent 15 weeks on IR only to return against the Cardinals and injure his left arm. X-rays were apparently needed, but the fact he was limited should be a positive sign.
Zach Cunningham has frequented the injury report over the last few weeks, having last played in the blowout loss to the Cowboys. Shaq Leonard really found his footing against the Giants, and he’ll face them again this weekend, which should give the Eagles some much-needed flexibility.
