We’re starting early on Black Friday!
The Philadelphia Flyers make a pit stop at the Wells Fargo Center to host the New York Rangers. They’ll return to Long Island tomorrow to visit the New York Islanders.
Whether on the road or at home, the Flyers cannot escape a New York state of mind. As they juggle the opposition from the Empire State, John Tortorella hopes his lineup finds the win column after a tough loss. Philadelphia, in three games last season, finished 0-1-2 versus the Rangers.
New York Rangers
Leading the Metropolitan Division, New York got back into the win column with a 1-0 shutout over the Pittsburgh Penguins. This matchup could be a low-scoring affair, too. Peter Laviolette gave insight, similar to what Tortorella demands, about what worked in their latest win:
“They were fantastic. They blocked so many shots; sacrificing themselves like that. It gets frustrating, too, when you can’t get your shot through on the powerplay.”

Artemi Panarin had five shots in the win against the Penguins, blocking a shot on defense, too. He creates high-danger scoring chances and leads the Rangers’ powerplay point production. Panarin notched one goal and a couple of assists in three games last season versus the Flyers.
Here’s the tentative lineup for the New York Rangers:
Kreider-Zibanejad-Wheeler
Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere
Cuylle-Bonino-Kakko
Vesey-Goodrow-Pitlick
Miller-Trouba
Lindgren-Gustafsson
Jones-Schneider

Philadelphia Flyers
One thing about Philadelphia is they keep battling opponents, never out of a game. The Flyers have to finish against the best team in the division, something that they couldn’t do on Wednesday:
“We had our chances. We didn’t finish. I think it could’ve went one way or the other.”
Sean Couturier; 11/22/2023
Travis Konecny had a few shooting lanes but mostly missed the net against the Islanders. However, he rushed around the ice, notable on the forecheck. Konecny couldn’t put it together in two games versus New York last season but is a known catalyst for Philadelphia this season.
Here’s the tentative lineup for the Philadelphia Flyers:
Foerster-Couturier-Konecny
Tippett-Poehling-Atkinson
Farabee-Cates-Brink
Deslauriers-Laughton-Hathaway
Sanheim-York
Seeler-Walker
Staal-Zamula
