Phillies vs Diamondbacks Betting preview
A win tonight would mean that the Phillies have a chance to clinch a World Series and celebrate in the City of Brotherly Love, but it’s a possibility that comes with the risk of blowing the series. The D-Backs have slithered back into the NLCS and will be looking to win the battle of the Zack’s (Gallen & Wheeler) Episode 2.
Wheeler has been as reliable as one could possibly imagine this season. He ended the season with a 3.61 ERA and a 13-6 record and has only gotten better in the playoffs, going 2-0 and maintaining a stunning 2.37 ERA.
Across from Wheeler will be Gallen, who has been just as impressive in 2023, but his postseason ERA sits at 4.96. Both of these pitchers have the ability to dominate a game and even if you add their postseason ERA’s together, it totals 8.57, which explains why the total for this game sits at 8. However, the total has gone over this number in 3 of the 4 games this series due to a pair of highly explosive offenses. It might be wise to stay away from that bet tonight.
Phillies vs Diamondbacks prop bets
Zack Wheeler Under 4.5 hits allowed -130
While I think betting the total is dangerous, there is some value on Wheeler’s ‘hit’ line. He’s posting a career postseason WHIP of 0.695 and has shown no signs of slowing up yet. Wheeler allowed 3 hits and struck out 8 in his first game against Arizona and we’re likely in for a similar performance again. He’s also gone under this total in two of his 3 postseason starts in 2023. I don’t mind backing him to do so once more.
Alec Bohm to record 1.5+ hits -110
Our Schwarber props cashed beautifully last night, giving a silver lining to an otherwise dismal day, but we’re not done yet. Alec Bohm did record two hits and cashed ANOTHER of our bets, and I think he has more in the tank.
Alec Bohm is really starting to find his footing after a wobbly postseason. He went 1-4 in Game 3 but recorded 2 RBI’s in the 10-0 rout one game prior.
As I mentioned yesterday, Chase Field is renowned for being a large ballpark and while betting on Alec Bohm to hit a home run might be asking a little too much, he’s clearly beginning to heat up. I have no problem backing him to keep the good times rolling tonight.
Bryce Harper over 1.5 bases -110
There isn’t much analysis needed for this other than when the Phillies need a hero, how often does Bryce Harper put on that cape? When the team is clinging on by a lifeline, how often is it Bryce Harper who turns the tide of battle?
Harper was held hitless last night but had punched in runs in each Diamondbacks game prior. I’m backing him to get back on that Horse in Game 5 of the NLCS.
