The first week of training camp is in the books as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to finish what they started last season.
After a heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LVII, Philadelphia moves forward with nothing more so on their minds than finishing the job. This was no clearer seen than by Jalen Hurts’ lock screen.
As the season rapidly approaches, expectations grow more and more each day for this talented Eagles team. While there can be no greater expectation than that which they place on themselves, the forecast for this team is quite high by all, judging by the team’s latest odds to bring home the Lombardi Trophy as they sit at just +650, second in the entire league.

If you bet $25 on the Eagles to win it all, you’d get $187.50 back. If you use an offer below, that $25 bet could become a $50 bet thanks to these BONUSES, which means your returns would be worth $375!

Last season’s Super Bowl is the obvious primary basis, as is often the case, but for a team that was such a surprise last season and that saw as many offseason subtractions as the Eagles, it would not have been surprising to see them take a bit of a fall. Why haven’t they? Well, in that answer lies the true excitement for the season.
As if quite typical in the NFL, it all starts with the quarterback, and few are as tantalizing as fourth-year QB Jalen Hurts. Seeing substantial growth in each season, the question becomes: How can Jalen Hurts improve yet again? That may be difficult to answer, but it’s hard to bet against him based on both his talk and walk.
After Hurts, the continued development of head coach Nick Sirriani is one that cannot be understated. It’s not often one talks of ‘development’ when speaking of a head coach, but a great coach understands that learning never ends. With another season under his belt and another year of chemistry with his franchise quarterback and the rest of the team, Sirriani will have plenty of pressure opposing him but a favorable hand to overcome it.
Then there’s the powerhouse that is Philadelphia’s offense. AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and D’Andre Swift, all behind one of the NFL’s top offensive lines? If only they had one of the League’s top signal callers… Oh wait, they do.

Can the defense replicate last season’s success?

While the offense seems like a near certainty for the Eagles, the defense has had its fair share of questions. After losing Javon Hargrave, TJ Edwards, and Marcus Epps to free agency, Howie Roseman was plagued with the difficult task of replacing championship-level role players. As if he’s given one reason to doubt as of late, he appears to have done so and then some.
Not only did Roseman retain both of the Eagles’ starting corners, Darius Slay and James Bradberry, but he led the effort in what is perhaps the greatest draft in team history. With two top talents selected in the first round between Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, Roseman has potentially supplied Philadelphia with two more stars who can contribute from Day One.
We are still a ways from the season, but the excitement in Philadelphia is palpable, and it’s not hard to understand why.
