Eagles 2024 Game-by-Game predictions: Will Philly emerge as the NFC’s top dog?

The Philadelphia Eagles revealed their regular season schedule for the 2024 season last night and to say it looks a lot friendlier than the gauntlet of 2023 would be an understatement. But just how well are the Birds going to fare this year? Here’s an early game-by-game prediction to try and spot potential trap games, big wins, and an overall trajectory for Philadelphia in 2024.

Eagles schedule predictions

Week 1 vs Packers, Sept 6 @ 8:15 pm

The Eagles will travel to São Paulo for their first game of 2024. While the reaction to the fixture has been mixed, facing the Packers should give Philadelphia a chance to start the season strong. Green Bay did well to rally to 9-8 last year and have gone all-in on protecting Jordan Love this offseason. With that said, the Eagles simply have too much talent on both sides of the ball to fall short against a team still finding its footing.

Result: Eagles win (1-0)

Week 2 vs Falcons, Sept 16 @ 8:15 pm MNF

The Eagles get a 10-day layoff after the season opener which is something they’ll absolutely take advantage of given their early bye (more on that soon). Returning home to face *checks notes* primetime Kirk Cousins? Beautiful.

Atlanta might eventually get their Lions-level breakout, but they’re still a few years away from that happening, and what is a pretty inexperienced team will likely struggle here against a revenge-focused Eagles outfit.

Result: Eagles win (2-0)

Week 3 @ New Orleans Saints, Sept 22 @ 1 pm

The games against New Orleans are always fun to watch. The Saints have struggled against the Eagles since 2019 (1-2) and are down 13-18 in the all-time series. Jalen Hurts has been able to really get under the skin of a team that often poses a relentless run defense but struggles offensively. That could be the same narrative here, only Saquon Barkley now exists which could open things up massively for Philly.

Result: Eagles win (3-0)

Week 4 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sept 29th @ 1 pm

I don’t know why the Bucs view the Eagles as their Super Bowl, but I digress. The Eagles were embarrassed by Tampa Bay in the playoffs last year and will absolutely want to set the record straight in week 4. A chance to start the season 4-0 before heading into the Bye is certainly going to put the Cherry on the Cake here, but making up for a horrible end to last season will be the primary aim.

Result: Eagles win (4-0)

Week 5 BYE Week

Yes, a week 5 BYE in a 17-game season sucks. But the Eagles do get a 10-day layoff between week 11 & 12, and one to start the year too. They’ve also avoided being drawn for Christmas Day/ New Years games. So while the second half of the season is going to bring some tough sledding, it’s not as bad as it seems.

Week 6 @ Cleveland Browns, Oct 13 @ 1 pm

This could be a tricky game for the Eagles. On the road, off a bye, against a Browns team that showed some real promise last year. This game also marks the start of a real grind for Cleveland, who owns the third-toughest schedule in the league this year and will face the Bengals, Ravens, and Chargers after this matchup. It feels like a letdown spot for the Eagles and a game the Browns simply have to win.

Result: Eagles lose (4-1)

Week 7 @ New York Giants, Oct 20th @ 1 pm

Boston Scott might not be able to single-handedly dominate the Giants anymore, but the running back to focus on here is Saquon Barkley, who will return to MetLife Stadium wearing another team’s colors for the first time in his career. This has blowout win written all over it.

Result: Eagles win (5-1)

Week 8 @ Cincinnati Bengals, Oct 27th @ 4:25 pm

After getting back on track against the Giants, the Eagles travel to Cincy to face Joe Burrow and the Bengals. This is Philly’s first real ‘playoff test’ of the year and one they’ll need to pass with flying colors. I think they grind out a narrow win here to really inject some confidence.

Result: Eagles win (6-1)

Week 9 vs Jacksonville Jaguars, Nov 3rd @ 8:20 pm SNF

The Jaguars could either be an AFC powerhouse or find themselves lagging behind their rivals yet again. It feels like each season is a spin of the roulette wheel, and I like the safer bet on a team who are waltzing their way to an NFC East crown.

Result: Eagles win (7-1)

Week 10 @ Dallas Cowboys, Nov 10th @ 4:25 pm

The Eagles haven’t won on the road in Dallas since 2017. As much as Kellen Moore will be a difference-maker for Philly and the Cowboys have lost a lot of firepower offensively, there’s just something difficult about beating Dallas on the road. I think the Cowboys sneak out a win here.

Result: Eagles lose (7-2)

Week 11 vs Washington Commanders, Nov 14th @ 8:15 pm TNF

The Commanders could be one of the real surprises of 2024, but they have a really tough schedule and could well find themselves struggling if the new coaching staff cannot find a rhythm by this point in the season. The Eagles should have no problem winning this game.

Result: Eagles win (8-2)

Week 12 @ Los Angeles Rams, Nov 24th @ 8:20 pm SNF

This could be a trap game. A Sunday Night Football clash on the road agains a Rams team that could be pushing back closer to its peak this season is certainly an intimidating matchup, but the equaliser could well be the fact that Philly fans often takeover L.A games with ease. I feel like this is going to be closer than people think and there’s a chance fatigue begins to set in after the early Bye.

Result: Eagles lose (8-3)

Week 13 @ Baltimore Ravens, Dec 1st @ 4:25 pm

Another real playoff test and arguably the most exciting matchup of the season on paper. The Ravens are one of the most dominant teams in the league but often lack firepower in the postseason. The Eagles are at home here which is huge, but I think the Ravens will get the better of the Eagles if they do end up losing to the Rams.

Result: Eagles lose (8-4)

Week 14 vs Carolina Panthers, Dec 8th @ 1 pm

Now the comeback begins. The Panthers aren’t going to trouble anyone in 2024 and this should be a very winnable game in front of a home crowd who will be very vocal in wanting to see this team avoid the same pitfalls they fell down last season.

Result: Eagles win (9-4)

Week 15  vs Pittsburgh Steelers,  Dec 15th @ 4:25 pm

The Steelers might be a tricky opponent to beat in 2024, but there’s been a real eave of change in Pittsburgh and if they can’t get going early, their daunting schedule is only going to compound the issue. This should be easy pickings for Philadelphia.

Result: Eagles win (10-4)

Week 16 @ Washington Commanders, Dec 22nd @ 1 pm

I do think there’s a chance that Washington wins this game, but the Eagles will be locked in knowing that a #1 seed and a first-round bye is almost necessary following their horribly placed week-5 bye. They see a slugfest out here and claim the win.

Result: Eagles win (11-4)

Week 17 vs Dallas Cowboys, Dec 29th @ 4:25 pm

With the #1-seed in sight, the Eagles seek revenge on the Cowboys for what happened earlier in the season. There’s a chance Dallas is scrapping for a wildcard spot here and nothing would bring Philly greater joy than denting those hopes.

Week 18 vs New York Giants TBD

Meaningless week 18 game that features a Tanner McKee masterclass. Count me in.
