Earlier today, the Philadelphia Union announced that they have loaned midfielder Andres Perea to NYCFC for the remainder of the 2023 MLS season. Philadelphia will acquire $300,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) in exchange for the loan deal.

Since joining Philly from Orlando City in December, Perea has not featured much for Jim Curtin, only appearing in 11 matches. The midfielder has three goals in all competitions for Philly, scoring two of them in one match against Alianza in the Concacaf Champions League.

There is no buy option for NYCFC when the loan expires, so Perea will return to Philadelphia when the season comes to an end.

Some Minutes for Perea?

As stated prior, Andres Perea has not received much playing time since joining Philly, only having eleven appearances (three starts) for the club. When acquired in the offseason, Perea was hailed as an important depth piece for the season, but the emergence of Jesus Bueno changed the plans for that happening.

Bueno has appeared in 20 matches for Philadelphia this season, with eight of them being a start. Perea will join an NYCFC midfield that includes players such as Keaton Parks, James Sands, Richie Ledezma, and many more. Hopefully, Perea will receive some important minutes for this NYCFC side as he looks to develop into the player Jim Curtin and Philadelphia want to see him turn into.
