After an exhilarating Monaco Grand Prix, the Formula 1 circus returns to Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix. Most eyes are on Max Verstappen and Red Bull, but it’s hometown hero, Fernando Alonso, who will undoubtedly command attention this weekend.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see Max Verstappen listed as the heavy favorite to win the Spanish Grand Prix. The defending World Champion is looking unstoppable once again this season, leading the Championship with 4 wins and 6 podiums to his name already. After winning his second consecutive world title in convincing fashion last year, the rest of the field has spent most of 2023 playing catchup…but this could well be the race where things get spicy.

Several teams are bringing new upgrades to the table this weekend, with Ferrari being one of them. Their Red Bull-inspired sidepods have caused quite a stir on social media and although Leclerc managed to finish 6th in Monaco, one has to wonder if Ferrari have some more aces up their sleeve.

Mercedes is another team worth keeping an eye on. Their completely revamped car did look competitive in Monaco, but it’s hard to gauge just how much progress had been made. Now, around a Catalunya circuit that lends itself to high-speed, the Black Arrows look set to make their mark. Surprisingly, a Mercedes has won this race in seven of the last nine years and with an impressive performance in Monte Carlo, we can expect them to be in amongst it once again at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Perhaps the most intriguing name this week is Fernando Alonso. The veteran Spaniard loves this circuit but it’s been years since his last victory here. In fact, the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix was his last F1 victory. How poetic it would be for Alonso, who has finished on the podium 5 times this season, to get win number 33 in front of his home fans.

Where to find value at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix

The ressurection of Alpine?

Esite Bestie on the podium Baby!!!’ might be the best thing to come from the Monaco GP. Ocon rallied his Alpine to an impressive front-row start last weekend and somehow kept his nose in the hunt all race long, finishing on the podium for the first time since Hungary 2021.

Alpine have endured a dismal start to the 2023 campaign, with DNF’s, car faults, teammate collisions, and penalties all ruining their weekends time and time again. But there was a real push going into this past weekend to right the ship and with the pressure on his shoulders, Ocon delivered.

Both Ocon & Gasly are -250 to finish inside the top-10 this weekend and should both be worth a look if Alpine can continue to make progress.

A Mercedes win?

Someone HAS to stop Max Verstappen eventually, even if that person is: Max Verstappen. The Spanish GP, as aforementioned, has been a Merc playground for the better part of a decade and with Hamilton and Russell around 20/1 shots to win the race, they could both be worth a punt…especially if the new upgrades yield positive results.

Lando Norris to finish inside the top-10

It’s been a difficult season for McLaren, but Lando Norris delivered some hope with an impressive Monaco drive. The McLaren car appears to finally be making progress after a shocking start to the year. Upgrades are coming in thick and fast and this could be the perfect time to ‘buy the dip’ on a driver who has excelled here before.

Norris rallied to 8th place at the Spanish Grand Prix last year despite dealing with tonsilitis. If the McLaren finally has some upgrades, getting Norris at -175 to finish inside the top-10 feels like a steal.
