The 2023 MLB season is well underway and things aren’t too sunny in Philadelphia. Bryce Harper’s long-awaited return hasn’t been enough to make up for other glaring weaknesses on the 2023 Phillies team, but it’s not too late for a playoff run to be ignited. A sluggish start to the 2023 campaign has resulted in a huge spike in Worlds Series futures prices. The Phillies were +1500 during the offseason and are now +2800. However, there are reasons to be optimistic.
The team is now 25-27 going into Sunday and are only 6 games behind the Atlanta Braves after winning two of the opening three games in their series. That’s a huge swing in momentum and something the team can build on with so much meat left on the bone this season.
The Phillies may have lucked into a playoff berth in 2022 after struggling to really finish strong, but their effort throughout the postseason was beyond impressive. That same resiliency is already on display this season and if the team can figure out the fifth spot in the pitching rotation and fix the never-ending bullpen issues, there is no reason history can’t repeat itself.
