Sputtering might be the perfect word right now. The Philadelphia Phillies are sputtering.
And as I sputter to the end of my Corona Extra with a thunderstorm looming at my back window, I think to myself, the Phils must be drunk too.

Reds vs. Phillies: If you keep betting on home runs, eventually you’ll hit
Not only has the vaunted offense fallen short of early expectations but injuries to Josh Harrison, Brandon Marsh, and even Darick Hall have the Phils looking for answers. You can’t call it a happy hour if you send half the team home in an Uber.
So as I expect to wake up hurting, I wish for the quickest of recoveries to a group of Phillies, and I’m sending some Liquid IVs to Philadelphia for the 2023 Home Opener.

Reds vs. Phillies: Pitching Matchup
Hunter Greene (0-0, 8.10 ERA) v. Zack Wheeler (0-1, 8.31 ERA)
Zack Wheeler will get a shot at redemption following his shaky debut in Texas, and he’ll start things off against Jonathan India, who he’s seen three times and retired on strikeouts all three. We like Wheeler to eclipse 8+ strikeouts which you can get on FanDuel at -102 odds.
Meanwhile, Hunter Greene, the 23-year-old, 2nd overall pick of the 2017 MLB Draft, will look to make his second start in 2023 following a mediocre 2022 campaign that left him licking the wounds of a 4.44 ERA.
Greene hasn’t faced much of the Phils lineup, with just eight total plate appearances between Trea Turner and Edmundo Sosa. While Sosa only netted a hit-by-pitch from their meeting, Turner’s gone long, collecting four hits with a slugging percentage of 1.167.
No better time for Philadelphia to turn things around than against an inexperienced pitcher at a Philadelphia home opener.
Phillies Daily Fantasy Pick of the Day
In what should ideally be a strength of an offensive lineup composed of as many as four lefties on any given day, the Phils have an OBP of just .286 against right-handed pitching.
That can be attributed to the small sample size, an otherwise unimpressive start to the season, and the daunting fact that almost 70% of all plate appearances this year have come against righties.
Bryson Stott, who has tied Turner for the team lead in hits through the first six games, is one lefty that’s been off to a hot start. We like Stott, and you can get him $2,700 on FanDuel.
Reds vs. Phillies: Prop of the Day
Kyle Schwarber‘s provided some friendly power, leading the team in home runs, but it’s Marsh who leads Philadelphia with a slugging percentage of .800. Marsh will sit again for the return to Philadephia, so we ride another hot hand: Turner.
Along with Stott, Turner’s hit safely in all six games this season. Not only has Turner lived up to his contract, but when he’s getting on base, it’s been an extra-base hit 30% of the time. Granted small sample size, but his speed has been game-changing.
Final Verdict
Accounting for all of the above, I’ve put together what I believe can make us all some money on Good Friday.
WAGER | ODDS |
Zack Wheeler – 8+ Strikeouts | -102 |
Trea Turner – To Record 2+ Total Bases | -120 |
Bryson Stott – To Record a Single | +105 |
PARLAY TOTAL | +683 |
