The Phillies did not start their season off the way that many had hoped for. Following an 11-7 loss to the Texas Rangers on Opening Day, the Phillies are back in action on Saturday at 4:05 pm.
Offense was no problem for the Phillies in their first game of the season. Scoring 7 runs and 8 extra-base hits, along with a home run, three triples, and four doubles did a great job in living up to expectations. If their pitching can come back down to Earth in this one, I expect some runs to be scored this afternoon in Arlington.
Phillies vs Rangers: 3 best prop bets
Over 7.5 Runs Scored
The Over/Under on Opening Day was 6.5 runs. A pitching matchup of Aaron Nola and Jacob deGrom is expected to stifle offense and be a close matchup. These two teams exploded on offense and smashed the over just four innings into the game.
While Zack Wheeler vs Nathan Eovaldi is another solid pitching matchup, I expect the over to hit once again. It felt like the pitch clock really became a struggle for both teams and if that continues, more baserunners will increase their opportunities to score.
Both teams each allowed more runs than the entire over/under on Opening Day. While I do think scoring will be a bit lower than 18 total runs, I really like the over today.
The over currently sits at -115. A $10 bet pays out $8.70 in profit. A nice way to nearly double your investment on this rainy Saturday.
Zack Wheeler 6+ Strikeouts
Zack Wheeler makes his 2023 debut this afternoon against the Rangers. Wheeler is coming off another great year in 2022 with the Phillies and has been a great addition since he joined the club in 2020.
Wheeler is a strikeout machine and his effortless high velocity will play nicely against this Rangers lineup. Aaron Nola had four strikeouts in his 3.2 innings pitched on Thursday. Wheeler should hopefully pitch deeper into this ballgame, which will give him plenty of chance to strike out batters.
Wheeler had a K/9 of 9.6 in 2022. This means for every 9 innings he pitched, he would strikeout out 9 batters. We all know he is capable of punching out more than one batter an inning, so I would take Wheeler and 6+ strikeouts today.
The current odds for Wheeler sits at -200. A $10.00 bet pays out a profit of $5.00. The books expect Wheeler to hit this mark and I do too.
Alec Bohm 2+ Total Bases
Alec Bohm is going to breakout this season. The young Phillies third basemen took a step forward in his career last season and looks to have progressed even further in Spring Training.
Bohm lost some weight, added some muscle, and has begun to launch the ball out of the park. On Opening Day, Alec took Jacob deGrom deep to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead in the second.
He also went on to double and single in this game. Bohm was a triple shy of the cycle and tallied 7 total bases in this game.
On Saturday afternoon, I would expect Bohm to have another solid day at the plate. Bohm either getting two hits or one extra base hit feels pretty good for a guy that is swinging a hot bat.
Alec Bohm to get 2+ Total Bases sits at +115 for Game 2 of the season. A $10 bet pays out $11.50 in profit when this bet hits today.
