With free agency around the corner, the Eagles find themselves at an interesting crossroads. More importantly, Howie Roseman has now entered the most crucial year of his career.

The Eagles have nearly 20 players that will become free agents this offseason. Several of them were incredibly important to the team’s success last season. Players like James Bradberry, Javon Hargrave, T.J. Edwards, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson are in line for huge paydays this offseason.

Not only does Howie Roseman have to worry about that but he also has the big contract extension that awaits his franchise QB. Jalen Hurts more than made a name for himself this season. His play on the field catapulted him to the top of the list in QBs. He was an MVP candidate that was robbed of that award due to an injury and he nearly carried the team to their second Super Bowl victory.

How could you not pay the man? But more importantly, how can you pay him and pay the necessary pieces for this roster as well while assuring that this team will remain competitive?

While Howie Roseman has done more than enough to redeem himself after the down years of their post-Super Bowl win, it seems that he may have met his match. He has to rebuild an entire defense that has yet to find its new coordinator. He also has to keep his QB happy by providing a winning roster and an even bigger payday.

If Howie Roseman can rebuild this roster while convincing Jalen Hurts to sign a team-friendly contract that still pays him as a top QB, where would that leave his legacy in the NFL?

Don’t get me wrong, the Eagles have key core players already in place for the next couple of years which is already an advantage for Roseman. He also has two first-round picks and two second-round picks from 2024 that he can use to find another key player for the defense.

The offense doesn’t need much this offseason except for a new right guard and a possible WR3 that can provide security for Jalen Hurts. After the down year that Quez Watkins had, I would expect the Eagles to either bring in competition or sign a sure thing to replace him.

Howie Roseman’s tasks for this offseason

The main focus for this offseason will revolve around four action items: the new defensive coordinator, rebuilding the defense, extending C.J.  Gardner-Johnson and extending Jalen Hurts

If Howie Roseman is able to accomplish this then it will show that he has learned from his mistakes and is truly devoted to putting a winning product on the field at all costs.
