The Eagles interviewed former Wisconsin Defensive coordinator, Jim Leonhard, earlier this week, sparking plenty of intrigue and excitement in the fanbase. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though the former NFL Safety is going to be taking the role anytime soon.

Despite Leonhard’s impressive credentials and attractive defensive philosophies, this shouldn’t come as a total surprise.

Why Jim Leonhard won’t be joining the Philadelphia Eagles

Jim Leonhard’s exit agreement with Wisconsin reportedly includes a clause that will see him earn $1M from the Badgers for doing absolutely nothing. He’ll be in no rush to find a job and we all know that Alabama should come knocking.

If you sprinkle in the fact he is apparently set to undergo hip surgery, then it makes perfect sense for Leonhard to be patient, examine all of his available options, and wait until he’s in a perfect position to make that decision.

As for the Eagles, the search for Jonathan Gannon’s replacement goes on. The team reportedly interviewed Michigan’s Jessie Minter, along with Vance Joseph and Chris Sula. Sean Desai and in-house candidate, Dennard Wilson, are also candidates worth noting.

As far as Jim Leonhard goes, never say never. But it does look as though there is a pause on any kind of move for the time being and the Eagles will probably want to find a replacement for Jonathan Gannon long before that window re-opens.
