The day is finally here! The Phillies pitchers and catchers have begun reporting to Clearwater, FL to start Spring Training.

While just pitchers and catchers are required to attend, plenty of our other players are already present on campus.

With Spring Training set to begin, we are just a little more than a week away from seeing the Phillies in action for the first time since Game 6 of the World Series.

On Deck

The Phillies open up their exhibition games with a split-squad scrimmage against the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers on February 25th. Fans can watch the Phillies-Yankees matchup on NBC Sports Philadelphia for television audiences.

While the first two Phillies games are set to be broadcasted on television, not every game will be shown. Like most springs, each team only has a handful of games they broadcast. It’s not just a warmup time for the players but for the announce team to get back in the groove.

With the recent announcement of contract extensions with Tom McCarthy (TV) and Scott Franzke (Radio), expect both to get some time calling games on NBC Sports Philly and 94 WIP’s radio broadcast.

Exciting Matchups

While seeing our favorite team suit up is always exciting, there are a few dates you should ensure you are tuning in for this Spring.

On March 3rd, Matt Vierling and Nick Maton will face off against the Phillies with their new club, the Detroit Tigers. While we aren’t sure whether or not they will play against the Phils that day or possibly on February 25th when the teams play, it could be fun to see old friends again.

On March 17th, against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Phillies will be wearing their green uniforms. This has become stable for St. Patrick’s day for the team, and I expect another year of Irish fun from the Phils.

March 25th will be the final time you can watch the Phillies before they take on the Texas Rangers on Opening Day. Watching them suit up against the Yankees in a game that most starters should be playing will be an exciting matchup. These two will meet for real in the second series of the season in the Bronx.
