Morocco vs Portugal betting preview
There has been no better story in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, than seeing Morocco not only fight their way out of the group stage in heroic fashion, but fighting past Spain on penalties, shocking the world and securing their place in the quarter-finals. They now face a Portugese side who will undoubtedly pose a threat, but the momentum carrying this Morrocan side is so strong that it could well cancel out the talent level.
In the shocking win over Spain, Morocco proved that they can weather the storm. They can sit back on their heels, waiting for the perfect counter-attack and absorb everything one of the best teams in the world could throw at them.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s potent thrashing of Switzerland sent a clear message. After Cristiano Ronaldo was benched going into the matchup, many anticipated an implosion. A 6 goal explosion is not what fans had on the cards, but it’s what they got. Ronaldo’s replacement, Goncalo Ramos, scored a hat-trick on his first start for Portugal, showing that this team is ready to move on from the drama and noise surrounding the all-time great, instead focusing on what gives them the best chance to win a World Cup.
Portugal might have all the star power in the world, but Morocco have 3 clean sheets in this World Cup. Yaseen Bonou has been as solid as a rock between the sticks and will have to be o top form against a Portugal side discovering life after Ronaldo. His replacement scored 3 goals and assisted 1 in his debut and there is every chance that Portugal try to build on that, attacking from the off and setting the tone early.
Morocco vs Portugal betting pick
I like the Over 2.5 goals selection here at -110. Portugal are going to score, we know that much. Morocco have proven that they can keep games close and competitive, but they’ll be leaning on the likes of En-Nesyri and Hakimi to deliver the goods. We could see a scenario where Portugal win 4-0, but I think a narrow 2-1 win is far more likely. Either way, goals should come pretty easily here.
