The Philadelphia Eagles were able to squeak past the Indianapolis Colts last week and will now face a much tougher opponent. The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers will roll into town for a Sunday Night Football matchup and it’s one that is really going to test the 9-1 Eagles.

A huge concern for the Eagles going into last week was stopping the run. The Texans laid the blueprint for the Commanders to rip through Philly’s defense and Washington executed it perfectly. Could they stop Jonathan Taylor? The answer was yes. They held him to 82 yards with the help of two new free-agent DT signings. That’s just as well, because next up is Aaron Jones.
Jones was quiet against the Titans, but amassed 130 yards against the Cowboys and ranks 9th in the NFL in yards per carry, averaging a decimating 5.4. Ndamukong Suh and Linval Joseph will both have their work cut out for them in repeating their run-stuffing effort last week.
There is a lot of noise surrounding Aaron Rodgers and his future in Green Bay. A loss to the Titans saw the Packers drop to a 4-7 record, falling helplessly away from the 8-1 Vikings. The four-time MVP still went 24/39 and scored two touchdowns against the Titans, and in true Rodgers fashion, rallied his team back from a two-score deficit against the Cowboys, only to fall short in overtime.
The Packers have struggled putting up points this season, which isn’t exactly something the Eagles struggled with. You’d like to think that against a defense that ranks 21st in sacks and has given up a 66% completion percentage to opposing QB’s, that someone playing as intelligently as Hurts will hold the advantage, especially with so many game-breaking talents around him.
With that said, Dallas Goedert being injured really hurt the Eagles last week and they’ll have to continue to try and find ways to emulate what he brought to the table both as a blocker and as a receiver. With a week of feeling things out already behind them, the loss should theoretically be less noticeable, but a player with 544 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on the season is hard to replace.
From a defensive standpoint, Philly has to find a way to stop rookie wideout Christian Watson, who is rapidly evolving into A-Rod’s top target. He has 5 touchdowns over his last two games and considering that both Darius Slay and James Bradberry have both been struggling in recent weeks, it’s certainly a matchup worth watching.
Eagles vs Packers betting pick
The Eagles have struggled to cover the spread over the last two weeks and while a 7-point spread feels more favorable, I think there’s better value to be found. I like the over 46 points here, knowing that the Packers are starting to roll offensively and the Eagles can score in buckets.
