Major League Baseball along with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros announced on Monday at 6:45 P.M. that Game 3 of the World Series, originally scheduled to begin on Monday at 8:03 P.M., has been postponed due to rain in the forecast. Game 3 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 1 with first pitch scheduled for 8:03 P.M.

The forecasted weather continued to intensify as the day progressed on Monday in Philadelphia. Following Major League Baseball’s first meeting with the teams and three independent weather experts at 5:00 P.M., the League made the determination to wait for a follow-up meeting at 6:45 P.M. to determine how they were to proceed. Just enough time for countless fans to pay for parking, enter Citizens Bank Park, and purchase food and beverage.

Not even an hour later, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred was on MLB Tonight, stating that the rain forecasted is “worse than the LCS,” indicating that a postponement was incoming. That announcement finally came down following the 6:45 P.M. meeting, finalizing the postponement.

Impact on the Phillies Moving Forward

Seranthony Dominguez will be happy to know that he will not have to pitch in the pouring rain in a postseason contest for the second time in four games.

With Game 3 of the World Series now taking place on Tuesday, with Games 4 and 5 subsequently on Wednesday and Thursday, the Phillies have the chance to bring Aaron Nola back into action one game earlier than they would have otherwise. Nola, who was previously lined up to start Game 5 on Wednesday, will now likely pitch Game 4 that same day. We now know that Syndergaard will then throw Game 5 on Thursday. This means that a well-rested Zack Wheeler will start in Houston if neccesary.

The Updated Phillies vs Astros World Series Schedule

Major League Baseball has reset the schedule for the remainder of the World Series, pushing each day of the World Series back by one:

  • Tuesday, November 1: Game Three at Philadelphia
  • Wednesday, November 2: Game Four at Philadelphia
  • Thursday, November 3: Game Five at Philadelphia
  • Friday, November 4: Travel Day (if necessary)
  • Saturday, November 5: Game 6 at Houston (if necessary)
  • Sunday, November 7: Game 7 at Houston (if necessary)

For any fans who were lucky enough to purchase Phillies tickets, they will be valid for the Game Number you purchased. Game Three on Tuesday, Game Four on Wednesday, Game Five on Thursday.

At least the Phillies Day Care can return home in time to go trick-or-treating. They can play baseball tomorrow on a sugar high from all of that candy!
