Sources have reported that the Sixers have waived former second-round picks Isaiah Joe and Charles Bassey. Throughout training camp and the preseason, there seemed to be a battle for the final roster spot between Trevelin Queen, Charles Bassey, and Isaiah Joe. In the end neither Queen, Bassey, or Joe make the final regular season roster.
Sixers make a surprise move in waiving Isaiah Joe
In Joe’s two full seasons with the Sixers, he averaged 10.3 minutes per game, 3.7 points per game, and shooting 34.9 percent from three. He was given a few opportunities to supplant Furkan Korkmaz in the rotation, but every time Korkmaz fought his way back into his spot. Joe had some good shooting moments with the Sixers but could never crack the regular rotation. Bassey never really had an opportunity to play under Head Coach Doc Rivers. He played in 23 games last season where he average 3 points per game in 7 minutes per game. Bassey had an uphill battle for minutes playing behind Andre Drummond, Paul Reed, and DeAndre Jordan.
In the final preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets neither Bassey or Joe played, which was a prelude to the decision to waive both players this morning. Kyle Neubeck of the PhillyVoice, has reported “There is some interest, according to a source, in bringing Joe back on a two-way deal if that ends up being possible“. It seems that if Joe isn’t picked up by another team, the Sixers will look to add him on a two-way to help the Sixers and the Delaware Blue Coats
