Are the Phillies back? It sure seems like they are.

After a crazy comeback win in the bottom of the eighth inning last night, the Phillies extended their win streak to seven games. Now, they go for their second straight sweep as they wrap up this series against the fish.

Probable Pitchers:

Phillies Kyle Gibson (7-4, 4.36 ERA, 88 SO) vs. Marlins Edward Cabrera (2-1, 2.61 ERA, 23 SO)

Kyle Gibson takes the mound for Philadelphia today and is coming off two quality starts of his own. Most recently, he took the Nationals on for eight innings of one-run ball, only allowing two hits as well. In 2022, Gibby has a 2.89 ERA in three starts against Miami, and the Phillies have won two of the three games.

This season is about the extent of Kyle’s career numbers against Miami, as he never faced them while in Texas. His only start outside this season was with the Phillies last year, where he got rocked for eight runs in 5.1 innings of work.

On the flip side, Edward Cabrera will get the nod for Miami today. He’s a very promising-looking young pitcher, who recently came off a two-month injury hiatus. As my colleague, Alec Kostival, pointed out, Cabrera only allowed one hit in his three minor league rehab starts. Meanwhile, In his return to a major league mound on August 5th, he no-hit the Cubs over five innings while striking out eight.

Betting Preview and Picks

The Phillies may have their work cut out for them today if Cabrera continues that trend, but they did get four runs off Sandy Alcantara last night, and the boys are buzzing, so there’s no reason not to believe in this team right now.

To be honest, it’s silly to even think about fading the Phillies anytime soon. They have one of the hottest lineups in baseball, have scored the sixth most runs in the entire league (fourth in NL), and have a top-11 team batting average.

Meanwhile, the Marlins have been struggling mightily since the all-star break. Since resuming play on July 21st, Miami has a 6-13 record. Even with a top-pitching prospect on the mound, they’ve only scored more than three runs three times since the break. Their offense isn’t guaranteed to get anything going against Gibby, who has looked stellar in his recent outings as well.

I’ll personally be backing the Phillies moneyline today, and likely parlaying it with the under 8 runs. A $10 play doing so will provide a $20.87 win.
