The Philadelphia Phillies are growing quite familiar with the St. Louis Cardinals.
A budding relationship comes to a close tonight as they edge each other for a spot amongst the Wildcard hopefuls. Barring a playoff rematch, this will be curtains in 2022 for this particular matchup.
Things have gone well for the Phillies, winning four out of six contests and achieving a +7 run differential. They may not be the Atlanta Braves, but at least the Phillies are making it count against one playoff contender.
Let’s ride.
Pitching matchup Monday, July 11th – 7:15p @ Busch Stadium
Aaron Nola (5-6, 3.15 ERA) v. Miles Mikolas (5-7, 2.72 ERA)
Fresh off a supposed All-Star snub, Nola will take the mound against the Cardinals for the first time in 2022.
Apparently, a 3.15 ERA, 9.7 SO/9, and 1.2 BB/9, which leads the National League, won’t be good enough for the 35-to-1 odds contender for NL Cy-Young.
While Nola quietly puts together his best season since 2018, the Phillies cling to a one-game advantage in the final Wildcard spot. A loss tonight would result in a tie with nonother than St. Louis.
In his last six starts, Nola has at least 6x strikeouts in all but one appearance. The Cardinals have the 4th fewest strikeouts in the National League, but I still like a vintage Nola performance following yesterday’s news.
You can get him at -178 to hit 6+ strikeouts on FanDuel.
Phillies Daily Fantasy Pick of the Day
Nick Castellanos, although deservedly, has become criminally undervalued. You can get him now for $2,700 on FanDuel.
He’s tallied two homers against Mikolas in his career and a .333 BA across twelve ABs.
