The Eagles are now just over an hour away from their bout with Tom Brady and the Bucs, but they’ll be going into the matchup without their star defensive end Josh Sweat.

Sweat was listed on the injury report with an ‘illness’ all week but we didn’t understand the severity of the situation until the team released a statement on Sweat’s absence.

It’s still unclear exactly what happened and would be unethical to make guesses or assumptions. NBC’s John Clark mentioned that it was abdominal issues.

But I think I speak for everyone when I say the main thing here is that Sweat is alive and well and that the procedure was successful.. It’s scary to think that there was a chance Sweat could have lost his life this week and the fact that he pushed through is all that matters.

He’ll understandably be out for this weekend but if he came close to playing on Sunday, there is a big chance he could return to the field next week provided that the Eagles can get past the Bucs without him. Ryan Kerrigan will likely be the starting edge rusher in his place.
