The Philadelphia Flyers locked up another RFA Tuesday, re-signing Nicolas Aube-Kubel to a one-year, two-way contract worth $700K.

The 23-year-old forward completed his third professional hockey season last year, spending most of his time in the AHL. Aube-Kubel has played 203 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, recording 45 goals and 52 assists. Additionally, he has 216 penalty minutes to his name in the AHL.

Just last year alone, Aube-Kubel played 54 games for Lehigh Valley. He scored 16 goals and added 14 assists. Also, Aube-Kubel received his first opportunity in the NHL last season, playing in nine games. Unfortunately, no points were recorded in his brief stint with the Flyers.

Re-signing Aube-Kubel to this friendly one-year contract was the right move for Chuck Fletcher to make. He is a valuable forward at the AHL level that hasn’t been given much of a shot at the NHL yet. There is a very good chance that opportunities arise more often this season. He is a perfect fill-in for Philadelphia’s fourth line if need be. Having him on a one-year contract gives the Flyers more of an opportunity to see what they truly have in Aube-Kubel.
