Losing Joe Douglas to a GM role may have been foreshadowed, but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t hurt the Eagles. However, they may have stopped the bleeding.

The team have promoted from within to replace Douglas, not only making it difficult for the new Jets GM to poach more front office members, but it helps maintain stability in the Eagles front office.

Howie Roseman adds the title of ‘General Manager’ next to ‘Executive Vice President’, which after the demolition of the Chip Kelly era, will feel good to have earned back. Roseman’s job won’t change though.

Another man’s will. Andy Weidl. Upon entering his third year as director of player personnel, Weidl has been promoted to vice president of player personnel. Weidl, who worked with Douglas in Baltimore as their East regional scout for three years, followed him to Philadelphia and it was a concern that he would do so again if offered a promotion. The Eagles retain a key talent who helped build the draft board since his arrival.

“We are fortunate to have so many talented people in the building. Much like our approach to constructing our football team, we pride ourselves on building a deep and talented front office and we strive to create an environment that emphasizes growth opportunity.” GM Howie Roseman said via press release. “We are confident that providing increased responsibilities to Andy Weidl, who will lead our personnel staff, and Andrew Berry, who we recently brought to Philadelphia as our Vice President of Football Operations, will allow us to continue to build upon our culture and add to the leadership that exists across the entire football operations department, led by Greg Delimitros, Patrick Dolan, Dom DiSandro, Jon Ferrari, Alec Halaby, and Jake Rosenberg.”

Weidl isn’t the only front office member receiving a promotion. According to the team’s official release. Here is a full list of promotions and hirings courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles.

  • Ian Cunningham promoted to Assistant Director of Player Personnel
  • Brandon Brown promoted to Director of Pro Scouting
  • Bryce Johnston promoted to Director of Football Administration
  • Katie David promoted to Football Operations Director
  • Casey Weidl promoted to Director of Scouting Operations
  • Max Gruder hired as Assistant Director of Pro Scouting
  • Matt Holland promoted to Senior Pro Scout
  • Chris Nolan promoted to Player Personnel Scout
  • Ameena Soliman hired as Player Personnel Coordinator
  • James Gilman hired as Quantitative Analyst
  • Ed Miller promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager
  • Craig Blake promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager

Andrew Berrys’ role as ‘vice president of football operations’ remains untouched. Berry joined the Eagles in February and is already seen as a future GM by many, following his work in Cleveland and Indianapolis.

Max Gruder’s hiring is interesting. He joins the Eagles after a long six-year tenure with the Dolphins, five of which he spent as a pro scout, where he evaluated pro players and worked on scouting future opponents. The Pitt product could bring a plethora of knowledge and value to the table as we all know how important free agent signings and trades are to this team.

After a week of uncertainty when it came to the structure of the Eagles front office, it’s safe to say that it’s Sunny in Philadelphia once more.
