Newark NJ: A huge game in the Big East Conference took place from the Prudential Center in Newark NJ on Saturday as the Villanova Wildcats took on Seton Hall Pirates. Villanova came into the game off a win over Butler on March 1 while Seton Hall heads to battle with the Wildcats off a win over Marquette on March 6.
if Villanova wins, they would clinch the number 1 seed in the Big East Tournament.
Seton Hall jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Villanova got on the board, The Pirates would bring the fight and try for the early knockout but the Wildcats would hang around as they got the Pirates lead down to 24-23 with 6:19 left. The pirates would have a 14 point lead at 39-25 with 1:03 left in the half. Wildcats would go on a run and make things interesting as Seton Hall would take a 39-28 lead into halftime.
In the 2nd half, Seton Hall would jump out on the Wildcats and Villanova would deal with the early blow and slowly make their comeback lead by Colin Gillespie, Wildcats would be on 13-0 run over the last 3:28 as they get the lead down to 3 at 44-41 with 14:25 left . The Wildcats would again go on another run to get the Pirates lead down to 3 at 61-58 with 7:02 left. Down the stretch, Seton Hall would make those clutch shots while the Wildcats would try to keep the game going but they would run out of time as Seton Hall Pirates takes down Villanova 79-75.
With the win, Seton Hall is 18-12, 9-9 in Big East while Villanova falls to 22-9, 13-5 in Big East. Both teams will be heading to Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tournament.
