Saint Joseph’s Hawks Soars to first conference win against Davidson

Philadelphia: The bright lights of ESPN Primetime came to Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University on Tuesday night as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on Davidson Wildcats. The Hawks enter this game with 7-9, 0-4 in A-10) and off a tough game vs Duquesne on January 12 while the Wildcats head to Philly for battle with the Hawks at 12-4, 3-0 in A-10 and off a win over VCU also on January 12.

Saint Joseph’s won the tip to start the game and Davidson would score the games first 8 points before the Hawks got on the board on a basket from Charlie Brown which ended the run, Davidson would make the Hawks pay early by shooting 4/7 for 57% while the Hawks are 2/9 for 22%. The Hawks would keep this game close as they got the lead down 3 on 3 by Troy Holston at 16-13 with 7:56 left. Hawks would take their first lead of the game at 17-16 by Troy Holston. down the stretch in the first half, Davidson would have great passing that leads for back to back three-pointers. Chris Clover would connect from 3 at the buzzer as Davidson took a 31-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams would score to start the 2nd half, Davidson would jump out early & the Hawks would cut the lead down to 2 on basekt & FOUL by Jared Bynum with 13:10 left. Hawks would retake the lead on by Chris Clover for 43-42 lead, then Wildcats answer back to retake the lead.  Hawks would retake the lead with 2 at the line for the 45-44 lead. There would be a stretch in the second half both teams would match each other baskets. Hawks would take the lead on 3 by Troy Holston for a 56-54 lead with 6:26 left. Hawks would tie the game at 58 by Charlie Brown with 3:47 left. Hawks take 61-60 lead on 3 by Chris Clover. The Hawks had a 61-60 lead with 20.6 & Davidson had a chance to win at the buzzer and comes up short as the Hawks win a nailbiter 61-60.

This was the Hawks first win in Atlantic 10 conference

The Hawks are now 8-9, 1-4 in A-10 & their next game is on the road at Saint Louis on Friday, January 18 while Davidson looks to rebound from this loss as they are now 12-5, 3-1 in A-10 and go to battle with Richmond on Saturday, January 19
