Back in Week 3 for another installment of Fantasy Football Friday, I am your host Jalyn Smoot with even more ways to run up the score in your fantasy football leagues. This week’s matchup is a potential shootout, with the hometown Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) hosting the Andrew Luck-led Indianapolis Colts at the Linc.
Former Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich will be welcomed back to a deafening, passionate crowd and the return of the captain of the ship- superstar quarterback Carson Wentz. At long last, #11 is back to finish the quest he started in 2017. In his first taste of live-game action since Week 14 last season, Wentz’s return to the starting lineup is expected to ignite a flame in the locker room and spark the offense on the field. A Wentz vs Luck is what football is all about, as they are sure to push each other to their limits all evening, and should lead to quite a few fantasy values.
If you tuned in to last week’s installment of Fantasy Football Friday, you cashed in big time if you trusted the faves and fades of the week. The faves- Zach Ertz (11 rec, 94 yards), Nelson Agholor (8 rec, 88 yards, 1 TD), and Nick Foles (35/48, 335 yards, 1 TD) all delivered solid to great fantasy performances down in Tampa Bay. The fades (WR Mike Wallace and RB Darren Sproles) ended up failing to produce points, unfortunately due to injuries to both. Let’s try to keep things rolling in Week 3:
Faves
TE Zach Ertz- Leading off our list for the second week in a row is dynamic receiving threat Zach Ertz. The sure-handed tight end is likely to be a regular in the faves section this season, as he is one of the most consistent players in the league. Through two games so far this season the Colts are allowing 61 YPG to the tight end position, allowing the starting tight end to rack up 55+ yards in both contests. Keep him in your lineups again this week.
RB Corey Clement- With Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles ruled out for this week’s matchup vs Indy, Clement is suddenly in line for a huge workload in Week 3. The Colts defensive line stands little chance versus the Eagles running game, as C Jason Kelce confidently asserted earlier in the week, and Clement should feast as he steps up as the featured back for the first time in his career. The second-year back is an absolute baller going against a poor defense. Don’t overthink this, get him off the waivers and in your lineup.
WR Nelson Agholor- After torching the Bucs defense last week, Agholor has another juicy matchup against the Colts this week. With Alshon still out, Agholor should continue his stretch of production at home this week.
QB Carson Wentz- Back on the field, back in my fantasy lineups. That’s the approach I’m taking with franchise quarterback Carson Wentz this season. Wentz attacked his rehab with the mindset of not only getting back to his 2017 form, but actually improving. The aforementioned porous Colts defense will be the first of many helpless victims for #11 this season.
Fades
WR Jordan Matthews- There aren’t many Eagles I’m opposed to starting this week, but it is just a bit too soon to thrust Matthews into your starting lineups. He is still working himself back to 100% health and doesn’t figure to play much this week.
TE Dallas Goedert- Although I do think he could be a sneaky DFS play if you need to save some salary and has a good matchup vs Indy, I think you could find safer options on the waiver wire in season long leagues.
