After a sign of hope earlier, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has painted a very bleak picture concerning the future of Jason Peters.

The Eagle left tackle was carted off the field during last night’s win with the team gathered around him and an air cast on his leg. A torn ACL would have likely ended the season of Jason Peters, but a torn MCL as well has to cast a dark shadow over the future of the 35-year old future hall of famer.

Halapoulivaati Vaitai filled in for Peters admirably yesterday and his progression is worth noting, but the loss of such an inspirational leader is going to hurt. Whether or not Lane Johnson shifts over to the left hand side of the field will be an interesting development to note.

We should learn more when the Eagles release an official announcement in the next few days. If Peters is done for the season (which unfortunately is more than likely), it could put a heartbreaking end to the career of a legendary, one-of-a-kind lineman.

The Eagles will also have a free roster spot that they may decide to fill with a potential backup heir to the throne in Dillon Gordon.
