Tobin had previously been signed using a restricted tender that was set to cost the team $1,671,000. The new deal has been constructed to lower his base salary in 2016 and retain his services through 2017. A smart move by a team who not only need security and depth on the line but also as much cap space as they can acquire between now and the end of the 2016 season.
The 25 year old lineman was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2013 and played in all 16 games for the birds last season.
