Reports surfaced last night that the Eagles would interview both Pat Shurmur and Adam Gase early this week an today the names continue to emerge. ESPN reported earlier today that both Doug Marrone and Teryl Austin are candidates that the Eagles will interview.
Chris Mortensen went on air earlier today and revealed some intriguing information about the Eagles search for Chip Kelly’s replacement. As well as talking about a Phone Call between the Eagles and Gase, he also stated:
“They will interview Teryl Austin, the Lions defensive coordinator. They will interview Gase in person. They will interview Doug Marrone who is the assistant head coach/offensive line coach of the Jaguars, former Buffalo Bills head coach. And there’s a long list from there. The list runs about 10 or 12 deep.”
The birds actually interviewed Marrone back in 2013 prior to his hiring in Buffalo which makes this even more convincing. The former Bills coach is also rumoured to interview in both Miami and Cleveland in the coming days whilst NBC Sports have linked him with the New Orleans Saints.
Austin on the other hand is also set to interview for Cleveland. The current Lions DC would be a favourable option for fans who are crying out for a Defensive minded coach to return to Philadelphia. Jim Caldwell also confirmed that several teams are interested in Austin with the Giants and 49ers being two of them. It’s the first year he is set to go out and interview after gaining his first coordinator role with the Lions in 2014. He worked with Caldwell previously at Baltimore in 2011.
