Eagles begin making cuts, G.J Kinne amongst first names

This may be the toughest roster to cut down in the NFL and with the date that the 53-man roster needs to be submitted looming, the Philadelphia Eagles have already started the process. The roster is now at 78 and needs to be at 75 by September 1st at 4pm.

The team have officially reported that Mike Coccia has been released alongside the following.

CB Marc Anthony
S Brandon Bishop
OLB Dasman McCallum
WR Josh Reese
TE Justin Tukes
WR Mike Johnson
WR G.J Kinne
DL Alfy Hill
DT Jeremy Towns
OT Kevin Graf
C Jared Wheeler

The big surprise here is G.J Kinne. The backup QB had moved into a WR position and had even made a catch against the Packers. Kinne was loved by fans and it was great to see him showing versatility in camp. There is no reason why Kinne can’t succeed in Arena Football.

Jeremy Towns had joined the team less than seven days ago so the move to cut him has come as a bigger surprise than the others. Coccia meanwhile grew up in Bethlehem, site of the new Union USL affiliate and of course Lehigh Valley affiliates for the Flyers and the Phillies. He was a die hard Eagles fan his whole life so this is a little upsetting..but you can’t keep a player based on merit.
