Eagles sign Diaheem Watkins, place Long on IR

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that they have signed free agent Diaheem Watkins to replace Travis Long who re-injured his ACL in a recent practice.

The deal is reported to be for three years pending a physical with the team and will see Watkins take on jersey number 45.

One of UAB’s most valuable assets, Watkins started in 42 games in his tenure. The 22 year old carried intense speed as he excels in pass rushing. Don’t believe us? He was able to run the 40 yard dash in 4.87 seconds whilst reaching a 31 inch vertical.

Replacing Long with a pass rusher who can help the likes of Barwin get to the Quarterback is a great idea. Watkins is very much an unknown and will be slept on by most teams should he make the final 53. Whilst chances are slim, the position is already low on depth so it’s perhaps one of the more promising off-season moves the birds have made..come on at least it isn’t another wideout!
