Hamels traded to Rangers for five huge prospects

The end of an era is upon us as the Phillies have finally traded Cole Hamels after months of speculation. The Lefty will now be a Texas Ranger who also received Jake Deikman and considerations in the deal.

In exchange for the former Phillies ace, the Phillies received Matt Harrison and one other, plus some huge minor league prospects including Nick Williams who’s ranked number five in MLB.com’s top 30 Rangers prospects whilst Alfaro is ranked at six and Alec Asher at 29.

The Phils set a deadline of Wednesday for Hamels after offers were flying in left right and centre from the likes of the Yankees, the Cubs, the Astros and the Giants.

The 31 year old is 6–7 this year reaching a 3.64 ERA and a 1.181 WHIP. With 137 strikeouts 128 2/3 innings to his name and that incredible no hitter, the three-time all star still has a lot to give. But having been with the organisation since the 2002 draft it is saddening to see him leave.
