As we head into the closing stages of the season, many fans are coming up with a to do list as such for the Flyers to do in the off season. Forward Brayden Schenn has been a recurring name on the list has following an a rollercoaster of inconsistency this season. Rumors have already emerged of general manager Ron Hextall potentially putting him on the trading block this summer.
However Schenn is only 23 despite playing in six NHL seasons. Youthful and experienced is a very rare quality to come across in the league and he has also shown glimpses of brilliance. The most recent being his fourth two-goal performance of the season the Flyers 4-1 win in Pittsburgh.
Is Schenn someone who has all the pieces of the puzzle and just needs the right coaching to complete it? Or is he a player destined to be good but never great? The Flyers need him to blossom into a high scoring forward, especially seeing as Sean Couturier is in the same boat as a forward who hasn’t excelled as quickly as hoped.
Those are questions Hextall will have to answer this summer, as well as questions of his own future. As of right now though he is the general manager and seems to be favouring the option of giving both players more time to develop. What do you think? Does Schenn have the potential to emerge and lead the Flyers to glory? Or is it too much of a risk to give him more playing time when there are more able forwards in the squad?
