On Tuesday, members of the Philadelphia Eagles’ leadership core met with the media at the NovaCare Complex ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni expressed awe for the Eagles draft and scouting process, while Birds GM Howie Roseman looks forward to the draft selection process beginning on Thursday, 04/24/25, in Green Bay.

Howie Talks About Eagles Draft Strategy

The Eagles enter the NFL Draft weekend with eight draft selections across the first five rounds. Philly owns their choice in the basement of each of the first three rounds at #32, #64, and #96. It’s a worthwhile trade-off for adding a second Lombardi Trophy to the locker room at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles have to plan for multiple scenarios with the late-round choice. “The way we go looking into the draft is we take the worst-case scenario and work back from that,” Roseman said. “You’ve got to be really comfortable with the worst-case scenario, which will always entail getting a good player. There are never 32 first-round grades on our board… so it depends (on) how things go.”

Birds GM Howie Roseman understands people expect him to be opportunistic at next week’s draft. “For me, I think that being aggressive has always been part of my DNA,” the Eagles executive admitted. “I feel fortunate that I have the people around me that support that… it allows us to be aggressive.

With nearly 20 picks in hand over the next two NFL drafts, Roseman can restock the depth chart quickly. “Picks are valuable,” Roseman bluntly stated. “You can use them to, obviously, pick players, use them to trade for players, (or) you can package them to move up in the draft. The more picks you take, the more chance you have of hitting on players. Where we are right now, we have a lot of really good players who have earned their paychecks. We want to get as many young, talented players on this roster as we can to add competition, which is one of Coach’s core values.

Siranni Addressing the Giant TE Question in the Room

The media took nearly ten minutes to fire a question to Head Coach Nick Sirianni, which asked specifically about the TE position but was wisely interpreted and answered about NFL prospects in general. “When you are watching, it always starts with talent,” Sirianni answered, “What I’ve come to be fascinated about is all the things that … Howie and his staff look at when drafting players.” The Super Bowl LIX-winning coach mentioned the various aspects of the scouting process, like a player’s football IQ, injury history, and other factors. “It’s an awesome process that so many people are involved.”

As expected, the Eagles management duo didn’t have much to say about the swirling trade rumors regarding TE Dallas Goedert. “We’ve been very fortunate to have the caliber of tight endplay that we’ve had here,” Roseman started. “When I first became GM (it was) Brent Celek, …to Zach Ertz, to Dallas Goedert. (They are) three really unbelievable players and people. When we talk about how the (upcoming draft) class looks, it all depends on who is there when you’re picking.”

Roseman Shouts Out Scouting Staff Ahead of Next Week’s Draft

Howie Roseman made a point to celebrate his scouting staff and their work preparing for next week. “Our scouts do a great job at knowing the player and knowing the person,” the Eagles GM said. “We’re (Roseman and Sirianni) not fortunate enough to step on many college campuses in the fall. So, we rely on those guys a lot. There’s a lot of flavors that go on in the National Football League. We just want the right fits for the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Roseman later spoke highly about all of the work that might not get used in selecting someone in 2025, but the information could be invaluable later on. “Really, we are talking about from 20 to 25 selections that we’ll make over the draft weekend,” the Fordham graduate told the media. “Whether it’s at the waiver wire in August, on practice squads, or for trades…  we have this body of work that we can go back and understand the work our scouts did on their character, their work ethic, what we have on player evaluations coming out of college. All of that goes into how we acquire players going forward once they enter the NFL.”

The NFL draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, starting on Thursday, April 24. The event will run for three days as 32 NFL GMs battle to rebuild their rosters with players each hope will be critical to organizational success.
