Ryan Richter’s Union II side is back in action on Thursday after nearly two weeks out of action for the second time already in the 2025 MLS Next Pro season. Union II plays host to Atlanta United 2 at Subaru Park as they look to grab their first win of the 2025 season.

Philadelphia Union II vs Atlanta United 2 Preview

Union II has suffered from a pretty dull start to their 2025 season, with all 3 of their games ending in draws and them having a 1-2 record in the extra point shootouts. In their last game, Ryan Richter’s side battled with Huntsville City to a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Sal Olivas and Cavan Sullivan. Oliver Semmle started the game in goal, and the young keeper tried his best to summon his inner Andrew Rick by saving a penalty, but Union II fell to a 4-3 shootout loss, leaving them on 4 points from 3 games so far this season.

Ryan Richter will have his whole squad at his disposal in this game, with no senior team game until the weekend and the game on Thursday being at Subaru Park. However, I do expect him to consider making some changes to the starting XI as he looks for his first win as Union II head coach.

Atlanta United 2’s Season So Far

Atlanta United 2 comes to Subaru Park on the back of their first win of the 2025 season in a game that was one for the ages against Inter Miami II. The game was played out over multiple days and at multiple venues. The game originally took place at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, but it was stopped and abandoned after 24 minutes due to bad weather, with the scoreline set at 1-1.

The game was then played out the following day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia, where Atlanta United 2 came away with a 3-2 win. They secured their first win of the season after drawing twice and losing once in their opening three games.

Can Union II get their 1st win of the year?

These two teams have faced each other four times since the MLS Next Pro was first started, with Union II holding a 3-1 series lead over their visitors on Thursday. Most memorably, Union II gave Atlanta United 2 a 5-0 beating back in April last year, thanks to a brace from Chris Donovan and goals from Eddy Davis, CJ Olney, and Kyle Tucker. Ryan Richter will be hoping his side can replicate that performance in the game on Thursday.

The game is scheduled to take place at Subaru Park on Thursday, April 10th, with kickoff at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for the game online, but if you can’t get down to the ground, you can stream the game on Apple TV via an active MLS Season Pass subscription.
