Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers had a high-scoring win over the New York Rangers. The Flyers and Rangers accumulated nine goals in the final frame for a score of 8-5.
Inside the Flyers’ frantic win
Within the chaos, a considerable milestone occurred for Tyson Foerster as he scored his first career hat trick. Foerster also reached 22 goals on the season. Other goal scorers for the Flyers included Tippett, Hathaway, Sanheim, Couturier, and Jakob Pelletier. Kolosov got the start in net and had a solid game between the pipes early on.
The Rangers did a good job controlling the first frame. New York got on the board first with a Vincent Trocheck short-handed goal. However, the Flyers showed life halfway through the second frame by getting on the board and maintaining the lead throughout the rest of the contest.
Defenseman Egor Zamula was candid during practice before the contest about how hard the team works, “We try to help one another and stay together. I think it’s good to have a positive locker room.” That translated into the contest where you could tell the team’s excitement when they put up eight goals over the Rangers, who are still competing for a wildcard spot.

A key moment of last night’s contest was Foerster’s hat trick. This was the first hat trick the Flyers had all season. Foerster said after the contest, “This building (MSG) is awesome, and it was pretty cool to get a hat trick in it.” Matvei Michkov was close a few weeks back, but he missed the empty net. The annual Flyers hat trick was completed with only a few short games remaining.
Interim head coach Brad Shaw admitted he has a more relaxed approach than John Tortorella, allowing more players’ personalities to shine. Shaw touched on Foerster’s hat trick, “she’s a real diligent young man, a real pro, mature beyond his years, and that shows in his game. Couldn’t be happier for him to get that hat trick tonight.” While the defense looked sloppy in the final frame, the offense could still produce.
Philadelphia will host the New York Islanders on Saturday for their second-to-last home game.
