According to Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing former Browns and Raiders TE, Harrison Bryant, to a one-year deal.

Harrison Bryant joins the Eagles

Bryant is still only 26 years old despite having 5 years of NFL experience. In that time, he’s recorded 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 2024, he played behind a refreshed TE unit in Las Vegas, recording 86 yards in total.

What’s interesting is that the 6’5, 230 lbs TE was occasionally used as a spot-QB during his final year with the Browns in short-yardage situations, where he would be tasked with pushing the ball forward. I wonder how the Eagles could use such a physical body…if only there was a play where that kind of skillset would be invaluable…

At this stage in his career, Bryant has established himself as a rotational TE who can block efficiently and chip in with some offensive production when needed.

What does this mean for Dallas Goedert?

It’s worth noting that Dallas Goedert is now in his contract year with the Birds and has seen his name floated in trade rumors over the last couple of weeks. He’s on the book for a $12M cap-hit, and the Eagles could save around half of that if they did decide to move on from their starting tight end.

Regardless of Goedert’s future, the Eagles did need depth. Grant Calcaterra showed more flashes of developing into a reliable starter in 2024, but depth behind him is minimal. Goedert hasn’t always been the healthiest player in the World and adding a veteran behind the developing Calcaterra makes a ton of sense, while adding an immediate insurance policy should the team decide to move on from Goedert.
